Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki GSXR750WT Carbs, suzuki gsxr 750, electrical diagnosis

Question
Hi Mark

I own a 97 Suzuki GSXR 750 WT which fails to start after the bike has been ridden, i.e after a good blast. If I stop at garages etc the bike will not start and I have to bump start it which is not always succesful and also embarrassing and a general pain in the butt!

It will also backfire scaring the living daylights out of passers by.

This hard starting problem only occurs once the engine is hot.  If it is left for an hour it will start.  I have not tampered with the carbs (the only thing that I have done is fitted an aftermarket exhaust which is a MIG race can, but it has been on the bike for years with no problems until recently.  Please could you advise me on any suggestions.  Look forward to hearing form you.

John

Answer
Hi John,

I suspect excessive valve clearances. I recommend that you have a local tech inspect the problem for you.

Otherwise, get a copy of the service manual and learn how to check cylinder compression and perform a leak-down test. Learn how to check and adjust valve clearances. Learn how to perfrom electrical diagnosis.

I think you'll find the problem(s) after performing theses checks.

Respectfully,
