Motorcycle Repair: Kz 440, local junk yards, kawasaki dealer

Question
I have a 1980 Kz 440 that i am getting fixed right now.  We had a problem with high end about two years ago it would not go over 4000 rpm so we decided that it might be an muffler or a vacume problem so being the intelectual i am i cut the guts out of my muffler only to find that the carb was the problem,  well it sat for the last two years and now a licenzed Kawasaki dealer is fixing it but the question is will the loss of the baffles in the muffle cause any interior problems with the motor or carb in the long run

and also i am looking for accesorie parts for the bike it came with a luggage rack and a back rest an i need to replace the brakets on the back rest, where would be a good place to look for them i have tried ebay and local junk yards
The part number is K53020-039

Thank you for all your help

Answer
Hi Steven,

The exhaust being altered may require carburetor tuning to dial in the air-fuel mixtures. I doubt you'll experience any longevity problems due to the exhaust.

Consider fabricating new brackets or having them fabricated.

Years ago I owned a KH400. It was customized with many parts from the 440LTD. It remains one of my favorite MC's.

I acquired a KZ400 last summer in trade for mechanical work. I'm looking forward to restoring it.
