Motorcycle Repair: Crack in motor, evo motor, happy new year

Question
Happy New Year Mike.

87 Softail with evo motor, 30 thousand miles.

The other day I noticed a small crack at the front of the motor case where the regulator is located. It is smaller than an inch. It is a vertical crack at the base of the front cylinder one inch below the base gasket. Right in the center if you were looking straight at the bike.

I heard these motors tend to crack but is it still useable. My bike runs fine and my oil level is where it needs to be. I just need to know what the lifeline is left before doing a whole rebuild.

Answer
Are you sure its not where the cases come together? If it is a crack, then you need to get it repaired as soon as possible. It will only get bigger in time. Yes, it can be repaired. I repair cases all the time. What you heard about the motors tend to crack is untrue. Harleys cases a very strong.
