Motorcycle Repair: Bike dies when hot, crank case, piston rings

I have just removed my valve cover and noticed the oil has thinned out,IT'S LIKE WATER also it smells like petrol it was replaced 1500 miles ago,any ideas why this has happened?

Hi Craig.

It sounds like you have fuel intrusion into the system.  There are only a couple of things that could cause this.

1)  The carbs are flooding the cylinders due to failure of the float seals or floats.

2)  The valves are out of adjustment enough to allow fuel to be sucked into the engine.

3)  The piston rings are allowing fuel into the crank case and the carbs are flooding the cyliders.

Start with those and see what you find.
