Motorcycle Repair: changing antifreeze on 1984 Honda Shadow VT500C, coolant tank, honda shadow

Question
My bike is having major trouble with cold starts, so I am tyrying everything I can. One of the things I want to do is replace the antifreeze, as it was a bit low and what remains is very dark and dirty. I cannot see anyway to empty the coolant tank, however. Without access to a shop manual, is there a way for me to find out how to drain the coolant tank completely so I can fill it with fresh antifreeze?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Answer
Hi Brett,

Remove the reservoir and empty the coolant. Clean and replace the reservoir, add new coolant, and purge the colling system of air. Use a MityVac AirEvac tool (or equivelant) to purge air from the system. This is a must anytime the system is opened to air.

I suspect the carburetors will need thoroughly cleaned to correct cold engine starting troubles.
