Mike. the title says its a 1975 sporster if its a 1000cc thanks because i was told it was an 883. anyway the oil leak is the problem can you help.
also is there away to tell exactly what the motor is from a searial number motor transmission and frame all match.
THANKS AGAIN RICKAnswer -
I am a little confused by your question. Harley didnt make a 883 in 1975. In 1975 it was a 1000cc. Do you have the right year in your question?
Mike

Answer
You have a 1000cc bike not a 883 if the year is 1975. If you give me the serial number I can check it to make sure.
Your bike breaths through two different places, one is the cam cover. There should be a metal tube coming out the bottom front of the cam cover. the other place is the oil pump. It has a breather also. the oil pump has to be timed to the flywheels or it will not breath correctly. Your problem sounds like the oil pump is not timed correctly. the cam cover, cams, pinion gear and oil pump pump gear will have the be removed to time it.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
