I recently pulled the engine and trans out of my 1996 FatBoy. After powdercoat I placed them back in the bike. The motor runs ecxellent with no leaks. The problem is, I hear a whinning noise comming from the primary. I only here it when I am moving. I notice shifting is hard at times. The primary chain has the proper tension, trans has plenty fluid. Could the clutch be out of adjustment, or someting with the trans not right? I am stuck, Thanks for any advice.

Answer -
Check your adjustment on the trans shifter. It needs to be centered to make it shift smoothly. On the whinning, check your motor sprocket nut for tightness as well as the nut for the clutch.
If this doenst solve the problem let me know.
Mike

Mike,
I checked the motor sprocket nut and the clutch nut and both were tight. The whinning noise is still there. It is only when I am moving and it does it in or out of gear. It also has a rattle noise. Since I only hear it when I ride it is hard to pinpoint, but it is comming from the primary area.
Gary.

Answer
Your right, noises are hard to pinpoint, especially since I can't hear them on here!
Since it happens in and out of gear, you can elimate the trans.
When you tore it down, did you change the cam or any other parts? Is the rattle only when moving?
