Motorcycle Repair: ignition problem, battery cables, check battery

Question
I just bought a 1991 Suzuki VX800.
I turn the key to "on" position but no lights come on.  I had to jiggle the key earlier to get it to work but now nothing. I sprayed it with WD40 and key turns fine but no lights.

Thanks.

Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,

Check the ignition switch and circuit for a loose or disconnected electrical connector.

Check battery cables for clean, tighly fastened connections.

Check fuses for clean, tighly fastened connections.

Check all electrical connections. Apply dielectric grease to connectors instead of WD40. WD40 displaces moisture, but is a conductor.
