Motorcycle Repair: No Spark, harleys, several times

Hi Mike, I just brought my 1990 Yamaha XT600 out of storage after 9 years, I put the new battery in fuled the tank hit the starter and the bike hit several times but did not start, then would not hit again I checked the plug for fouling and tried a second plug only to discover no spark. The coil comes to mind but why spark at first and then none? There is also wires from the coil that go to what I think would be the electronics . What do you think ED

I usually only answer questions on Harleys, but I might be able to help. Check to make sure you have power going to the coil if you do then you either have a bad coil or a bad ignition. As to testing them I am not going to be able to tell you. You would have to check with somebody that knows about Yahmaha's.
