Answer
Hi Chas T,

Q:  "...i heard that it is a chain driven clutch and the chain is probably stretched. do you think this may be the case?

A:  The crankshaft drives the clutch shaft via primary chain.

Q:  "...if so is there a way to tighten it up ? or do i need to replace the entire clutch?"

A:  No adjustment with primary chains, replacement only.

The problem may or may not be the clutch. I would need to hear the sounds to accurately diagnose the sounds. I recommend having a local tech listen.

A local shop can provide a verbal and/or written report with diagnosis and estimate of repairs for about an hour of time at the shop's flat-rate service fee.
