Motorcycle Repair: no spark, electrical diagnosis, website message board


Question
I have a 2000 yamaha griz 600 I WAS OUT HUNTING
I got up to leave and all it would do is crank
a buddy in camp has a 2001 griz I grounded the
plug no spark we swapped coils and cdi unit and
still no spark checked for loose wires and found
none also put in a new plug
has 1000miles no repair history other than regular oil changes,cable lube,air filter
all done at the dealer where I got it its been perfect until now
 any ideas

Hi Scott,

Continue performing electrical diagnosis. I'm suspecting a safety switch may be the cause.

Safety switches are often used on clutch and side stand (on motorcycles) and neutral.

If you've installed a tether kill switch on your Griz, check it fro proper operation.

Check entire ignition circuit wiring, connectors and components. All must have resistance or Ohm values within service limits.
