Motorcycle Repair: HOW TO, self tapping screws, sediment bowl

Question
HOW TO REBUILD A LEAKING FUEL COCK ON 83 HONDA CB1000C. THANX!

Answer
Al, they aren't really made to be repaired, if you are having leaks around the lever, however, some people have successfuly repaired them by carefully drilling out the rivets, geting a replacement 4 hole gasket, which should be available from K&L parts suppliers, through your dealership, then finding some tiny self tapping screws to replace the rivets. You have to be very careful here, as there isn't much material to work with on the body.

Honda made the gaskets in 3 different sizes, so you will have to match up what you have, as there are no listings for the correct part in the 1000C parts books. Sometimes, you can flip the 4 hole gasket over and use the back side if it is just flattened out and not torn through the holes.

You will probably need a new filter screen for the petcock while you are in there and a new o-ring for the sediment bowl.

You will have to check ACE hardware, perhaps, for some suitable screws.

There are some websites devoted to the CB900-1000C models.
