Motorcycle Repair: Charging Problem, 750 virago, regulator rectifier

Question
My 88 Yamaha 750 Virago will not charge my battery. The voltage across the battery when running is 11.73 Volts DC. I replaced the regulator/rectifier and got the same results. I checked all the ground connections and all appeared OK. I also tested the Voltage out of the stator (3 white wires) while running and got a voltage of 43 volts AC across each leg. Can the stator still be the cause or are there more tests I can try to resolve this? Thanks, Louie

Answer
Hi Louis,

I suspect the voltage from each leg of the windings is lower than service limits.

Visit "www.electrosport.com" and check out their Troubleshooting Chart.

I recommend their electrical replacement parts over OEM part. Very fine quality parts.

Visit "www.viragotech.com" This is a good Virago resource.
