Motorcycle Repair: 40 amp breaker trips on 98 Ultra Classic ?, amp breaker, volt meter

Question
The main breaker trips causing the Bike to die after riding an hour or more on hot days. The breaker has been replaced and it did better for  a while, but it is doing it again. I wonder if the heat from the engine is a factor. If it is I could move it or put it on a heat sink. The volt meter "charging indicator" on the bike does not indicate a drain when the bike dies and will start and run within a minute or so, but will die again, unless I let the bike cool down. The wiring harness is good with no wear or shorts.

Answer
There are several reasons for a breaker to fail. Old age, short, heat, bad ground are a few. I would start by making sure you have a good ground. At the battery as well as at the grounding point. The breaker you bought might not have been good off the shelf, so i would change it again. Check your charging system with a volt meter at the battery to make sure its not over charging and kicking the breaker. Last, if is still doing it look for a bad wire or a short. the breaker can take alot of heat, so i dont think your problem is heat related.
Good luck and happy riding
