Motorcycle Repair: Rough engine, air fuel mixture, stock pipes

Question
Good day

I have a 2004 Suzuki Intruder 1400 purchased used with 8600 kms on it.  Original owner replaced the stock exhaust with Cobra pipes.  But the bike runs terribly - misses and backfires every time you let off the gas.  Above 50 - 60 miles an hour it is so bad that the bike itself vibrates as I ride. I don't know if the bike was rejetted.

I have the stock pipes - should I put them back on or is there another option?

I would appreciate your expert analysis.

Ian

Answer
Hi Ian,

Some backfiring can be expected with V-twin engines with performance exhaust installed.

I suspect the carburetors will need tuned to correct the air-fuel mixture.

I recommend a loacl tech inspect the Intruder and perform any tuning. Carb tuning requires experience, time, and patience.

I'll send several files to your email.
