Motorcycle Repair: 1985 maxim x, bikebandit com, shaft removal

Question
Hello there mark, thanks for the help with the radian. I have since sold it and purchased a 1985 750 maxim X. It needs some work, but i love those bikes. It needs a airbox and new exhaust. I checked with my local yamaha dealer, and was informed that those parts are not manufactured any more. So the only way to get new ons is through second hand parts. I was wondering would an air box and exhaust from a regular in line 4 maxim would fit a 20 valve genisis maxim X. And Also how do u get the motor out of the frame. I mean with regards with disconnecting the shaft. I do a fair bit of mechanic work and so I should be able to do it my self. I'm going to order a repair manual too. Thanks in advance for any help.
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike!!

You'll find the procedures for engine/shaft removal in the service manual.

Try comparing part numbers at "www.bikebandit.com" or "www.yamaha-motor.com" to learn if the airbox is a direct match. Otherwise, I would have to measure the parts to know.

Ebay is a good resource for parts. You may have to watch awhile for the parts needed.

Respectfully,
Mark
