Motorcycle Repair: Rear Caliper Removal, rear brake caliper, rear caliper

Question
Hi Mike,
Something broke free in the rear brake caliper of my 99 Softail and tore up the rotor pretty good. I'm having a devil of a time getting that caliper off to see what's going on in there.  I removed the Muffler and rear axle cover to get at it easier.  After removing both caliper bolts it shakes free, but will not come all the way off the pads.  I've tried rocking it back and forth to get the piston in a little bit, but I just can't seem to make any progress.  It looks as though the retaining clip that holds the shims and pads in place is loose as well, so I don't want to muscle it around too much and start breaking things.  Sure could use some insight.
Thanks,
Wayne

Answer
Your caliber should slide right off. use a screwdriver and fit it between the pad and the puck in the caliber. Pry against the rotor and the brake pad and move the puck ( the part that pushes against the pad) back in to the caliber and see if it doesnt come off then
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
