Motorcycle Repair: roller lifters, roller lifters, needle bearings

Hello Mike;
 Can you instruct me as to how to know if a hydrolic liffter is bad, beside the needle bearings broken or missing.

There are tow things that can go wrong with a hydrolic lifter. Its stops pumping up, which makes the pushrod to loose, and the other is the roller goes bad. When you check the roller there will be side to side play, but there should not be any up and down play. Also, when spinning the roller, it should nto bind at all.
