Motorcycle Repair: I looked at a very clean 2001..., kawasaki ninja 500, proper performance

Question
I looked at a very clean 2001 Kawasaki Ninja 500- 5900 miles, not ridden much in the past 2 years. It starts on the first crank, but it won't stay running  if you close the choke, even after the engine is warm. What would you say is the likeliest cause, and how difficult is the repair?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Tony,

The common cause of an engine starting and running with choke, but stalls off choke is fuel left in the carburetors has varnished (gummed). Pilot air-fuel circuits (jets and passageways) inside the carbs are obstructed.

The carbs will need thoroughly cleaned to restore proper performance.

Ceaning carbs is a difficult task. I sent carb cleaning information to your email.
