Motorcycle Repair: Gear wont shift to 2nd up to 6th gear, shift linkage, shively

1980 KawasakiKZ440 D:
Bike was stored for about 8 years when I bought it from the previous owner. It got 11k miles only. I changed oil and put new battery and it ran right away. The problem is it won't shift to any gear except 1st. I tried to adjust the clutch by following all the steps in the manual but it did not fix it. Please help. Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed,

I suspect a shift linkage related problem.

Place MC on center stand, slowly rotate rear wheel by hand and try shifting through gears.

If problem persists, review service manual procedures for checking shift linkage.

The task may require engine disassembly.
