Motorcycle Repair: Electrical, honda cb, selenoid

Question
I have a 82 Honda cb 750sc and I tried to replace my selenoid with a universal one and now I have no power when I turn on the ignition.  The factory one is fused on the outside and has a four pin connector and the new one has two wires and no visible fuse or place for a fuse.  I'm not sure if I should spice the wires on the part to connect to the four coming from the bike, but I've tried numerous combinations of connections but still have no power.  Do you know what the problem could be?  Are universall selenoids not fused where the factory one is? Thanks, I think this site is great by the way.  -Ryan

Answer
Hi Ryan,

I recommend using the OEM solenoid.

The new solenoid is not designed to work with your SC's wiring, as discovered.

Trying to make the part work may have negative and more expensive results.
