Motorcycle Repair: Battery Problems, battery problems, battery voltage

Question
My battery died on my Yamaha, so I charged it. Then my friend tried to start it while the cables were still attached. Now I can't start it at all. What do I do?

Answer
Hi Tasha,

If you want assistance you must follow all instructions for asking questions. Instructions ask you to provide info such as the following:

1) What year and model is the Yamaha?
2) Can you tell me about any series of events leading up to the problem? Other problems you may have noticed, etc...
3) Was in storage for any period of time?
4) Did anyone work on the engine or electrical?
5) Was this a sudden problem or did the problem develop over time?
6) What is battery voltage and how old is the battery?
7) Is the battery in good condition (clean)?
8) Do you have a multimeter (VOM)?
9) Anything else that you can add will help me diagnose the problem.

I return repair and test information via email. You must include an email address with question as requested.

Answer the above and we'll resume with your reply.

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
