Motorcycle Repair: 95 Katana choke always on?, bikebandit com, shively

Question
Hi Mark, my choke lever got stuck recently and didnt want to budge much.  I always start the bike with full choke and let it warm up a bit, that time i had to apply a more than normal force to pull it down.  I didnt ride for a week and now I start it up and it jumps to 5k rpm regardless of where the choke is at (adjusting has no effect).  I am guessing the choke cable on the other end is broken and stuck in full choke mode, is that possible?  Where can I find the spot the choke cable attaches on the other end?  Does this sound logical or could it be something else?  Would it be ok to ride 10mi with full choke on like this?

It usually jumps to 3k and I adjust from there with the choke.  If I have my hands full and can't adjust it, a full choke will jump to 4k or 5k when not lowered as it is warming up.  Its staying at 5k and not lowering.

Appreciate any advice you can give.

Answer
Hi Jason,

Yes, it's possible that the choke cable may be rusted, broken, routed improperly, or other.

You'll have to pull the tank and body panels and investigate.

Explaining the what to look for is as easy as removing all the parts and looking. : )

See microfiche parts at "www.bikebandit.com"

You should get the service manual. It's all there.
