Motorcycle Repair: Problem starting bike, honda v45 magna, 1982 honda v45 magna

Question
Hi Glen,
Thanks for you help in advance.  My bike is a 1982 Honda V45 Magna VF750C (4 cylinders)(24K miles)looks like good shape.  I'm new to motorcycles and just bought this one the other day.  I test rode it and I believe it was cold when the seller started the bike.  It warmed up in place and then rode fine.  The next day at my house, I started it up just fine, and in haste tried to ride without warming it up.  It basically just petered out on me and when trying to restart it it ran for a few seconds then stopped and every subsequent restart was less and less until the starter would turn over, but not the engine.  I thought it might be flooded, so I let it sit for an hour or more and tried again.  It first turned over a little, but never started.  Then not turning over at all, but starter is cranking.
Do I need to wait longer?  Does this sound like a different problem?
Thanks for any help,
David

Answer
David, I'm sorry I thought I had answered your question. I would first check to see if engine is turning over when you hear starter turning,If not I would check out the starter drive gear? If all is well I would re-charge battery full,And try to start it again. If it starts ok ,Your generator may not be charging the battery enough. Good luck,Hope this helps. Try me again.Glen
