Motorcycle Repair: cb 550 four clutch, cb 550 four, clymer manual


Question
i am replacing the clutches on the 550 . i put the friction discs and the plates back in but i still have some play in the clutch basket about 1/32 play in and out is this normal? also do i tighten the bolts all the way down on the springs? clymer manual just says to put it back together the way it came off. un fortunately the  clutch assembly was already off the bike. also the collar goes on the inside of the basket instead of the outside against the thrust washer ?

A:  Yes, there usually is some play as described.  


Q:  also do i tighten the bolts all the way down on the springs?

A:  Yes. Don't over-tighten the spring bolts. A little more than snug. Be sure to replace fiber plates, metal plates, and clutch plate springs as a set.

A:  We get what we pay for. Buy Honda manuals for best results.
