Motorcycle Repair: harley misfires and dies, cam work, gas cap

Question
I recently had SE 211 cams put in my 99 carbuerated Roadking.  It already had samson pipes and the Stage 1 and has 14k.  I took ir on a 700 mile trip and after the first 100 miles it hiccuped like a misfire and then make a pop sound.  Thinking it was bad gas I kept going.  Another 20 miles and it died.  I pulled over and tried the gas cap and it started.  This continued my whole trip.  Being a Holiday everyone was closed.  The bike felt a bit hot so kept at 60-70 mph..It seemed to always occur at 4500rpm. forgot to add that it had 2500 mi service with the cam work...all just before trip. thanks

Answer
First, make sure you have a good gas flow throught he petcock. Remove the hose from the carb and run some gas into a cup through the petcock. If you have a good flow, then ride the bike for a while and see if it does it again. If it does, remove the gas cap and go riding. If you dont have the problem, then you have a plugged gas cap. If above are not the problem, then you need to test your coil. If it passes then the ignition needs to be tested.
Good luck and happy riding
