Motorcycle Repair: Glowing Manifold, air fuel mixture, piston crown

Question
I have a 1999 Suzuki King Quad 300F ATV. The first outing after having the carb cleaned(professionally)I noticed at night that the manifold was glowing red at the head, oddly enough it can't be seen during the day. I had never noticed this prior to the work so I stopped and returned it to the shop.
The mechanics first said that this was not normal and went over the carb and lines three times, without finding anything wrong. Finally they called the main suzuki dealership and were told that this is sometimes normal. "Sometimes normal" is not very reassuring, any experience with this or advice.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Tim,

My experiences with such a problem is the result of an overly rich air-fuel mixture. For example, if the choke if left on too long, the exhaust header piper or down pipe would be glowing dull orange/red.

The extra fuel in the mix normally helps cool piston crown and other combustion chamber parts, but excessive amounts of fuel cause the pipe to glow.

Visit "www.atvfrontier.com" and ask other owners if they have experienced your ATV's problem.
