Motorcycle Repair: painting heads, wrinkle paint, aluminum cylinder

Question
I'm currently rebuilding a 80" Shovelhead.  I would like to paint the aluminum cylinder heads as well as touch up the cylinders and engine cases.  I bought some Harley Davidson Brand texture, not wrinkle, paint from the local dealer.  The part number for this paint is 98606BF.  They told me this would match the factory paint closer than the wrinkle paint.  When I got it home I noticed the can did not say it was for high temperature use, however it does say curing can be forced at 200 degrees.  Is this suitable for painting heads and cylinders?  What is the normal operating temperature range of a Shovelhead?

Answer
The problem you are going to run into is your cases and heads are very porius. The paint is going to have trouble sticking. They have to be very oil free. Also, over time from the heat of the motor, the paint will flake off.
Your best bet is to powdercoat the motor. Its harder than paint and will withstand the heat of the motor. It also come in many colors as well as wrinkle.
If you dont want o powdercoat them then the paint you have will work. the normal temp of the motor is around 220 degrees.
Good luck and happy riding
