Motorcycle Repair: checking oil to top end., rear cylinder, oil line

Question
what would be the proper way to check the oil to the top end of my shovelhead,Iam not sure I know how to do this,I just know after 20miles it gets really hot and the top end rattles and sounds like timing too high or running low octane gas. starts and runs fine until it gets hot though, thanks again for your help. Its people like you that keeps us dummies rolling.

Answer
On the shovel you should have a oil line going from the case to the top end. It is located on the carb side at the rear cylinder. You can remove the oil line where it goes into the head and start the bike and see if you have a oil flow. Ther is a crossover line as well going to the other head. Remove it and see if you are getting a oil flow.
Good luck and happy riding
