Motorcycle Repair: 1983 Honda v45 magnum vf750c, chrome air cleaner, screw head

Question
I just picked up an '83 V45 over the weekend, and have had a few minor problems with it. One was a clutch problem that was answered in a previous question.
This bike's been sitting for two years, and all it does is flood the cylinders with fuel due to gum in the carbs (or so i've been told). Is there an effective way to clean the crap out of these 4 carbs without having to pull them out?
A related problem i'm having is that the screws holding the chrome air cleaner covers on are rusted in, and i don't want to strip them out...  what do you recommend for getting those bad boys loose?

Answer
Chris, the only way out of pulling the carbs is to go to the Yamaha dealer and get some of their carb cleaner solution. You mix it with gasoline, drain the carbs, pour it in the fuel line to fill them up again..wait overnight and pray that it worked for you. Otherwise, you have to rebuild them.

The air filter cover screws were an issue when the bikes were built due to lack of lubrication on the threads and overtighening at the factory. There isn't much you can do about not damaging a screw that is all the way in. If you can get a new sharp bit in there to get a good grip on the screw head then try that. If the head is damaged and you can get in with a pair of needlenose ViseGrips and grab the screw head, that may work. If the threads are seized and the screw won't come out, you will have to drill off the screw head and deal with the rest once it is apart.
