do i have to dissassemble the motor to replace the shifter oil seal  and also the sprocket shaft oil seal ? please tell me that i don't have to. thanks

Answer
Phillip, it is best to have the cases split to replace any seals, however it is not a necessity.

What you do need to do is to thoroughly clean the shafts for both applications when you pry out the seals. Be very careful not do damage the shafts or the seal recesses in the cases, when you are doing this.

The "trick" to this is to find some long plastic tubing that is rigid enough to use as a seal driver. Small diameter PVC or EMT tubing may work. Take your new seals to a hardware store and see what you can find that is the correct diameter and length to assist the seals into their correct locations. You have to keep them squared up going in, otherwise they will bend or collapse which will render them useless.
Lightly oil the outside edge of the seal and the seal recesses in the cases, this will help the seal get seated properly. If you twist the seal or it catches on the edges of the shafts, the spring on the back side will pop off and the seal will not "seal" for very long.
Get it centered in the hole and then slide your "driver" over the end of the shaft and center it on the seal edges.
Carefully tap on the end of the tubing with a plastic or wooden mallet and watch the seal as it works its way into the recess hole. They will want to cock sideways going in and sometimes it is okay to allow them to do that briefly and only at a slight angle. Drive them in until they bottom out, but don't let the tool slip off and damage the inner seal lip edges.

Take your time and you can do it!
