Question
I have a 73 harley fl 1200. I just put a new rotor & stator in and I need to adjust clutch. a friend did it and it seemed ok. next day went to ride it home and I pulled in the clutch and it didnt disengage. not sure where to start but I want to learn how to do this myself. any help will be appreciated. thanks

Answer
If you had your clutch adjusted right and then it didnt work it might be the clutch rod and throwout bearing whick is bad. There is one way to find out and that is adusting the clutch and if it works and then doesnt disengae later then thats the problem.
To adjust he clutch you need to remove the primary cover. Loosen the adjuster luck nut on the cable and shorten the cable to have play in it. Loosen the locknut on the clutch and turn the screw outward till it has play.
Now looking at the clutch you will see three nuts holding a plate against the springs. From the underside of the plate to the plate that goes against the clutches you should have a measurement of 1 1/32. Now to adjust the clutch. Turn the adjuster inward just until it touches. Back it off around 1/8 of a turn. Tighten the locknut. Now adjust the cable until you have about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever and tighten the locknut.
Good luck and happy riding
