Motorcycle Repair: 1982 Kwaka 250 LTD single overheating, air fuel mixture, header pipes

Question
Hi,
I'm aware of the usual causes of overheating, Too lean a fuel mix, bad ignition timing, etc. , but this is extreme. Starts very difficultly, won't idle properly,  won't rev over 4,000RPM (less under any load), and the really freaky thing is the exhaust pipe close to the cylinder head actually turns RED with the heat sfter only about 45 seconds.
Any Ideas?
I've ruled out Ign. timing, since it is electronic Ign. , Still fiddling with Carbie. Could this be caused by a stuck or fouled valve?

Answer
Hi Al,

I suspect the carburetor enrichment circuit (choke) has a problem.

If the choke is left on too long, the header pipes will glow a dull orange (and so will the exhaust valve). This can happen manually or defectively.

Glowing pipes within 45 seconds is not engine overheating, rather, an overly rich air-fuel mixture condition.

Check for air intake restrictions, too.
