Motorcycle Repair: cdi ignition box, honda 1100 shadow, electrical problems

hi , i own a 1987 honda 1100 shadow, i know you repair Harley's'but i've been experiencing intermitant electrical problems where me bike will suddenly loses fire to the plugs , this has happened 3 times in a period of 5000km so its not frequent ,we'v'e checked the bike over twice and nothing
My question is , can a cdi box cause these intermitant problems ,or will a cdi generally just quit?

Speaking from a harley prospective, yes you can have trouble with the ignition and its shorts out.
I would first, though, make sure you have no shorts in the ignition wiring which will cause the same problem.
Other than the above I cant really help you. I really dont know anything about other bikes
