Motorcycle Repair: 1991 Kawasaki ZX-600 wont start, kawasaki zx 600, vacuum valve

Question
Hi Mike,
I have cleaned the carbs, replaced fuel lines, replaced petcock diaphram and everything else the manual said could be wrong, but I can't get my 91' zx-600e to fire without putting gas directly into the carb.  If I pour gas in the carb it fires right up until that gas is spent.  I just replaced the vacuum valve switch and it didn't help either.  I am pulling my hair out and lots of bucks are going down the drain. Please help!  -Trey

Answer
I usually only answer questions on Harleys, but I might be able to help. First you need to see if your getting gas from the petcock. Since you said you have a vacumn switch remove the hose from it and connect another hose to it. Suck on it to create a vacumn and open the petcock. You should get a gas flow. If not, then you need to recheck your work.
If you do then the jets are probably plugged in the carb. Usually, if a bike wont run at idle its either the idle jet or the intermedate jet that is plugged.
Hope this helps
Mike
