Motorcycle Repair: lack of oil pressure, rod bearings, oil tank

Question
I own a '98 FXD. The lower end, cylinders and heads were professionally rebuilt after the con rod bearings failed.
I did the reaasembly of the motor to the bike and when starting, noticed that the engine would not develop any oil pressure. I drained the system checked all the lines for obstructions, checked the oil pump for sheared keys nothing.
Friends have offered many suggestions such as pressurizing the oil tank, checking the cylinder walls for groves to replacing the pump. I feel the pump is not the problem because everthing falls within spec. The service manual doesn't mention if the pump requires priming, is there a procedure for this? When I first started the bike I let it run for about 30 to 45 seconds before shutting down, shouldn't the pressure build by then? I'd appreciate any help you can give me. THX

Answer
If all the above you said is good then you should be getting pressure. You might have a air block in the line.
Go ahead and fill the oil tank. Clamp off the oil line to the oil pump and remove the clamp letting some oil run throught he line and reinstall. Remove the caps on the oil pump and pull the springs out and the plunger out of the one and the ball out of the other. Put some oil on and reinstall the parts. That will put oil in the pump and prime it. Now start the bike and you should get pressure.
Good luck and happy riding
