Motorcycle Repair: New Air Filter Troubles., air fuel mixture, bandit 600s

Hi

I fitted a new K&N Air Filter to my 2002 Bandit 600s over the weekend.

The fitting was trouble free.  I didn't take the tank off, just propped it up - but I did have to take the reserve fuel switch off to enable me to do this.

Now it's fitted, however, I have found that I have now lost all power between 6 and 8000 revs on 3rd gear and above.

Between these rev lines, the throttle seems to have no effect and then, after 3 or 4 seconds BAM - masses of power.

Any ideas what I've done wrong?

Many thanks in advance.

Answer -
Hi Steve,

The air-fuel mixture will need to be dialed in to accomodate the increased air flow of the K&N filter.

Describe the appearance of the spark plugs.

I return tech information via email. Include your email address with reply.

Hi Mark

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Re: the spark plugs - they are just 6 weeks old and in excellent condition.

Answer
Steve,

Spark plugs should appear as light shades of browns for best results. I recommend performing a plug chop, read the plugs, and study the air-fuel mixture.

From the limited descriptions provided, I suspect the new filter is affecting performance, not sealing properly, or some other condition exists. I would need to be present and perform a few checks to accurately diagnose the problem.
