Question
I was riding my back a 1994 Honda CBR 1000, and while at a stoplight I seen smoke coming from the left handle where there is two wire that plugs into the back of the clutch lever. the bick shutdown I have no electrical power at all, the lights dont come on when switched on there is no horn on signals no start or nothing. do I need to just replace wire or what do you suggest. Thank you. Bennie

Answer
Hi Bennie,

There's a direct short in the clutch safety switch.

You'll have to figure what caused the short and begin repairing any damages. I would start with the clutch switch. Inspect it and replace it if necessary. If the plastic electrical connector and wires are melted, splice a new connector and wire into the circuit.

Check the main fuse and other fuses. They may have blown.

Motorcycles have the following safety switches; clutch, neutral, and side stand.

If the clutch switch is defective, the engine may not start.

Get the service manual for repair procedures.
