Motorcycle Repair: 03 vstar tranny problem, vstar 1100, dept id

Question   I have a 2003 vstar 1100 classic that all of a sudden the shifter does not want to pop back up ready for the next gear. The shifter sticks down from one gear tio the next and i have to use the heel/toe shifter to advance to next gear or downshift. What could be the most possible cause and repair?

I suspect a shifter return spring is broken, or come off.
