Motorcycle Repair: throttle, throttle cables, brass cylinder

Question
I am putting new grips on a 2002 FXD and I am haveing trouble with the throttle side.  How do I get the throttle cables off the old grip?

Answer
Locate the adjusters for the throttle cable and idle cable. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster inward to shorted the cable. Remove the two screws that holds the cover for the throttle cable. Under it you will see the cables going into the grip. The ends are in a brass cylinder. Pivot the cable so that the cable slides out of the notch. Reinstall everything and adjust the cables so there is no slack in them and your good to go.
Good luck and happy riding
