Motorcycle Repair: KD80 grounding problem, bill silver, engine ignition

Question
Dear Bill,I have been retoring a nice little KD 80 Kawasaki and I thoroughly painted the frame, engine etc with a special epoxy coating.I can't get a spark. I replaced the Ht coil under tank and have the Mag cover off, basic points system. I am just not getting continuity between various engine parts frame, where there should be. I get zero spark. I get a flutuating Ohms reading with my meter, but I'm feeling like I was stupid enough to eliminate the ground between engine and frame. Is that possible? Thanks Jay

Answer
Jay, the engine ignition system needs grounds wherever they were before. Anything electrical that is mounted to the chassis needs to be grounded properly. Grind off the powdercoat for the engine mounts and the coil. You could have a bad condenser, too. Be sure that the points are clean, clean, clean, gapped properly so that the timing is correct.
You can't use an ohm meter with the points, because of the condenser charging and discharging.
