Motorcycle Repair: EXHAUST BACK FIRE, drag pipes, exhaust pipes

Question
HELLO!  I HAVE A 1998 HANDA SHADOW 750 VT. IT HAS THE DRAG PIPES ON IT. IT RUNS GOOD BUT IT IS BACK FIRING THROW THE EXHAUST PIPES WHEN IDLING OR SLOWING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. I JUST GOT THE BIKE, I DONT KNOW IF THESES PIPES CAME ON THE BIKE OR NOT ? I HAVE CHECKED THE SPARK PLUGS AND AIR FILTER , THAY ARE GOOD !  PLEASE HELP!  THANKS.

Answer
I usually only answer questions on harleys, but I think I can help. You dont have any back pressure on your exhaust system. Get some baffles that fit those pipes and that might solve the problem. Right now you are losing power with the drag pipes. They are make for high RPM's, not normal riding.
Also, make sure the carb is jetted right.
Good luck and happy riding
