Motorcycle Repair: Fork Oils, automatic transmission fluid, showa forks

Hello,

 Can I use a good grade of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) instead of HD's type E fork oil in my Softail Showa forks? Is there really a difference in these oils? Thank You.

To tell you the truth, I am not sure what the weight of trans fluid is, so I cant comment on the whether you can use it or not. If it is a lighter oil then the forks will be more mushy than normal. You dont have to use harley fork oil, however. You can go with another brand that is the same weight.
