Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki Bandit 600S cutting out, bandit 600s, suzuki bandit

Question
Mark,

I hope you can help with some advice

On Tuesday (08-03-05) of this week I decided to take my bike to work. The morning wasn't too cold at around 6:45am, I'd say around 4-5 deg. C (which is better than most mornings recently).

I left my bike running for around 10-15 minutes in the back yard to warm her up…..then off we went. About 10 minutes into my journey (which would normally take me 40 mins) my Bandit 600S suddenly and inexplicably cut out and wouldn't restart.

I looked around the bike and poked a few things and tried to restart her after around 10 mins and HEY PRESTO away we went again. Another 5 mins in she suddenly lost the majority of the power, I had just enough push to crawl into a lay-by at around 3 mph. Another 10 min wait and she started again first time.

By this time I had decide it wasn't worth heading to work and turned around and headed back home and take the car. It stopped a further 4 times on the way back home and same again after a 10 min wait she'd start again.

A couple of riders at work say that it is Carb Icing.
I am not CARBURETTOR minded and don't truly understand the concept of Carb Icing.

Does this sound like a classic case of Carb Icing and if so what can I do about it?

Thanks in advance

Darren

BTW – I got to work at 10:30 instead of my normal 7:10………..bummer (or not as the case may be)

Answer
Hi Darren,

Before I offer my suspicions, answer the following questions:

Has the problem occurred since? (Check the date you listed on the original question. : )

Describe the spark plugs to me. Mark them with respect to the cylinder they are removed from.

Any periods of storage? Has the carburetors ever been serviced?

We'll go from there.

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
