Motorcycle Repair: paint on frames, enamel paint, panhead

Question
Hi Mike,I have asked you a few questions before and you have been very helpfull. My question today concerns paint. My wife has begun doing custom painting,a gentleman in our area who restores bikes for a living wants her to paint frames that he restores as the person he uses now is not up to his standards. He told her that the paint originally used was urethane based.I did not think they had urethane back then, the frame he wants her to start with is from a panhead he is restoring. Can you tell me what was used during different years or perhaps point me in the direction of someone who can?

Thanks,Mike losurdo

Answer
I am not sure what paint was used when, but I am like you. I think they used enamel paint but I could be wrong. The best sourse the check with would be harley themselves.
Go to their webside www.harleydavidson.com and you should be able to contact them
Sorry I couldnt be more helpful.
