Motorcycle Repair: My Jonway Scooter is acting strangely, skilled mechanic, water in the fuel

Question
Model:
Jonway Adventurer Scooter (YY-125T-12) , January 2005 model, current mileage 3194km, last serviced at 1300km. Electrical repairs to the indicator and headlights. Still has malfunctioning indicators. No modifications or additions. Refilled oil a week ago.

Symptom:

Sputtering. When I drive, I open up the throttle all the way, but it just can't go faster than 40km/h. It feels as though the engine takes - dies - takes - dies all the way.

My husband suspects this might be water in the fuel.

We plan to use injector cleaner fluid.

Should this clear up the problem or might it be something other than water in the fuel system?

Does this problem require a skilled mechanic or can I fix this myself with a little effort and mechanical skill?

Answer
Hi Christel,

I have zero experience with this brand. I agree the problem may be contaminated fuel or obstructed fuel injector/carburetor as a result of varnished fuel. Check for a air intake obstruction or dirty air filter. Clean the spark plug.

You can likely perform basic maintenance on your scooter. You certainly could do maintenance and repairs with the service manual, if available.

Good luck and sorry that I could not be of more help.
