Motorcycle Repair: Honda 750 Coil, contact breakers, measure resistance

Question
Mark,

I have a 1982 Honda 750 sport.  Bike turns over but won't start.

Both coils on the bike are good.  I checked all the plugs and wires.

I only get power on the right side (plug 2 & 3).  No spark on 1 & 4 even if I switch the coils (plugs 2&3 work with both coils).  Checked both sides with meter and both have power.

Maybe it's the contact breakers but I don't know where to find them!

ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I'm baffled! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi David,

This model has electronic ignition. Check the pick-up coils for continuity and measure resistance. Compare your reading with those in the service manual.

The CDI could be the source of the problem. Test the CDI with a known good CDI.
