Motorcycle Repair: Noise from speedometer or tachometer, speedo cable, wd40

Question
Hi, when riding my '99 Road King there is a noticeable noise from the speedo/tachometer area.  Would lubing the speedo & tach cables help?   And if so how is it done?   The tach is an aftermarket product.

Thanks!
Brian.

Answer
Your tac is probably electronic so there is nothing to lube with it. If its internal you cannot tate it apart.
The speedo cable can be lubed. Look at the back of the speedometer and you will see a nut holding the cable in. remove it and hte calbe will slide out. You can lube it with some WD40 and reinstall it. If you are still having the problem and you are sure that its the speedo or tac then you are going to have to replace them. There is no repair you can do.
Good luck and happy riding
