Motorcycle Repair: clutch pull effort, bikebandit com, clutch assembly

Question
I have a used xs650 1975 yamaha ..the effort to pull the clutch handle to the handlebar is ridiculously hard to do..I have cked everything..pushrod..actuator..lubed everything that moved..noticed when I would loosen the pressure plate springs the clutch pulls easier..with press plate completely off eveything works great moves freely replace pressure plate and retighten springs..wow must take 50 pounds of pressure to get the clutch to the handlebar..the clutch sems to work good, no slippage/chatter..just the pull on the lever is so hard it prevents me from riding the bike where there is any traffic..ideas..suggestions?

Answer
Hi Darrell,

I suspect too many plates, or the clutch assembly is not assembled properly. It may be something else. whatever the problem, from the description of events I beleive the fix is simple.

Get the shop manual or see microfiche parts at the following websites:
"www.bikebandit.com" and "www.yahama-motor.com"

Compare parts and see if all is assembled properly.
