i just bought a cbr and it went fine for a couple of days around town headed up the coast and opened it past 6000 revs and it started coughing and spluttering i know that they are a carby engine what is the best petrol for them and do you need to addn any thing to you juice etc mu8ch appreciated greg

Hi Greg,

I suspect the MC has an air-fuel tuning problem and/or fuel contamination. I would need to perform some simple checks and see the spark plugs to be more specific.

For street use, use regular gasoline. You will only pay more for premium and you won't notice the difference. There is very little difference, if any.

You would notice the difference with a race fuel from a sealed container (VP or FassGass). Additional tuning may be necessary to run race fuels.

Check the gas tank, petcock, and float bowls, and fuel filter for contamination. Clean or replace the air filter if necessary.

I can only imagine the coast... must be nice.
